Chandler Harker’s Vienna Lady Eagle softball team paid a visit to St. Elizabeth High School looking to upset the top-ranked Lady Hornets and lock up the top seed at the upcoming Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 1, District 1 Softball Tournament starting tomorrow (Thursday) at Richland High School.
Scoring twice in the first, third and fifth innings, Vienna went on to spoil St. Elizabeth’s softball senior night following a 6-2 victory.
Salene George led off being hit by a pitch for Vienna before being retired on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Ella Hollis.
Aubrey Schwartze followed with a single before Kayla Hertzing delivered a two-out two-RBI triple giving the Lady Eagles an early 2-0 lead.
Lady Eagle starter Addie James retired the first nine Lady Hornet batters she faced throughout the first three innings.
Vienna doubled their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning started by an Ella Hollis triple.
Hertzing collected her third run batted in of the game on a double that scored Hollis.
Later scoring on a Madison Weeks RBI single, Hertzing scored to cap Vienna’s latest two-run frame.
Two hits and two errors in the top of the fourth led to St. Elizabeth’s lone two runs of the game.
Salene George delivered a two-RBI double scoring Jaelee Stricklan and Aubrey Reeves in the top of the fifth inning giving Vienna their final margin of victory.
James earned the complete-game win allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts.
Friday at South Callaway, Vienna defeated the Lady Bulldogs 12-5.
