Limited to 14 first-half points last Tuesday at Dixon, Jason Kampeter’s Vienna Lady Eagles saw the host Lady Bulldogs connect on 13 3-point field goals during their 63-38 loss on the road.

“We had good energy, but still had a hard time hitting our shots while Dixon seemed to hit everything,” Kampeter said.

Autumn Smith led Vienna in scoring with a team-high 13 points to go along with five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.

Jena Schwartze just missed a double double scoring 12 points and pulling down eight rebounds.

Kadence George and Kamryn Hayes each followed with five points for the Lady Eagles.

George also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds in addition to four assists and three steals.

Hayes added seven rebounds to her five points for Vienna.

Marsie Messersmith rounded out the Lady Eagle scoring with a 3-pointer in the first quarter for three points.

Monday night should have been the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) basketball opener for Vienna as they were scheduled to host Steelville’s Lady Cardinals.

However, a mid-afternoon burst of snow quickly made road conditions poor enough for officials to postpone the game to a later date.

Scheduled to play last night (Tuesday) on the road in Tuscumbia against the Lady Lions, Vienna will have one more road game this week (weather permitting) before competing in next week’s 7th Annual Russellville Girl’s Basketball Tournament in Cole County.

Two days after taking on the Tuscumbia’s Lady Lions, the Lady Eagles will venture into Morgan County on Thursday, Jan. 23 to face the Versailles Lady Tigers with a 6 p.m., start time for JV action.
