Maries County’s all-district softball dozen

Between Vienna and Belle High School, a total of 12 Maries County volleyball players earned All-District honors during their respective district softball tournaments in Classes 1 and 2 respectively.

Falling 10-3 to Stoutland in the championship game of the MSHSAA Class 1, District 2 softball tournament, Mick Byrd’s Vienna Eagles had eight players earn All-District nods along with players from Stoutland, Crocker, Laquey and Newburg.

First-team selections for Vienna went to senior pitcher Marsie Messersmith and junior utility player Alicia Long in addition to the Eagle infield trio of senior Kamryn Hayes, junior Karissa Feeler and sophomore Kadence George.

Named Second-Team All-District for Vienna was junior catcher Gabby Wilkinson, junior outfielder Jada Kleffner and junior utility player Molly Otto.

Ending Vienna’s season in the district championship game, Stoutland has advanced to the MSHSAA Class 1 Softball Championships later this week in Springfield.

They will take on Canton in the first of two semifinals at 11 a.m., followed by the other Class 1 semifinal between Salisbury and Maysville.

Salisbury defeated St. Elizabeth in the state quarterfinals 7-0 after St. Elizabeth handed Vienna a 7-4 loss back in late September.

Over in Class 2, District 8, Randis Sanders’ Belle Lady Tigers had four players earn All-District honors along with players from Linn, New Haven, and Cuba.

Those from earning First Team All-District honors from the Class 2, District 8 Softball Tournament in Linn were sophomore pitcher Gracie Rehmert, junior first baseman Cheyenne Struemph and junior third baseman Susie Moman.

Collecting All-District honorable mention accolades was Belle Lady Tiger senior Faith Gieck.

Belle’s season ended in the district semifinals following a 3-0 loss to New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks.

New Haven went on to fall to Linn 10-0 in the Class 2, District 8 championship game.

In Class 2 sectional softball last Wednesday, Linn’s season ended at the hands of Father Tolton Regional Catholic’s Lady Trailblazers following a 6-1 loss in Columbia.

Father Tolton also fell in the Class 2 Quarterfinals Saturday at Palmyra, 6-5.
