Tigers fall on last-second shot to New Bloomfield

Taking a 49-37 lead into the fourth quarter of their non-conference home basketball game with New Bloomfield’s Wildcats Monday night, Johnny Viehland’s Belle Tigers appeared to be on their way to a 3-0 start to their season.

Outscored 27-13 over the final eight minutes, Belle suffered their first loss of the season by a final score of 64-62 against the visiting Wildcats.

Hank Stratman led the Tigers with a game-high 24 points followed in double digits by Brayden Cadwallader who netted all 12 of his points in the second half.

Logan Stratman nearly made it three Belle Tigers in double digits scoring seven of his eight points in the first half. Six of his eight points also came from the free-throw line.

Hampered by foul trouble, senior Baylar Smith scored all seven of his points in the first half.

Myles Butler scored four of his six points in the second half followed by a Glayden Woodruff 3-pointer in the second quarter for his three points.

Luke Rohrer rounded out Belle’s scoring against New Bloomfield with a second-quarter bucket for two points.

Wyatt Jordan led three New Bloomfield Wildcats in double figures with 18 points including 10 of them in the fourth quarter.

Nate Fuhriman added 15 points followed closely with 13 points from Jake Fuhriman.

Brett Butler’s Belle JV Tigers trailed New Bloomfield 12-8 after one quarter but were not able to get any closer before going on to fall 48-38 to New Bloomfield’s JV Wildcats.

Kaegan Kinsey scored eight of his team-high 13 points for Belle in the second half while Hank Willis also reached double figures netting 10 points for the JV Tigers.

Cooper Guinn added six points while Kooper Elrod scored all four of his points in the fourth quarter.

Avery Craigmiles chipped in three points with Connor Weigel rounding out the JV Tiger scoring with two points on a third-quarter basket.

Eric Massman led New Bloomfield’s JV Wildcats with a game-high 17 points.

After hosting Newburg last night (Tuesday), Belle’s Tigers will have two more home games this week hosting Russellville on Friday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., and Chamois’ Pirates on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., in varsity-only action.
